Questions & answers

Know before you buy

Quick answers about the DS-2FA120A-DW-IN, and how it compares.

How do I choose the right power supply?

Add up the power of every camera on the supply: use the maximum watts (or amps at 12 V) from each camera datasheet, and keep about 20% spare. Check the voltage too: 12 V cameras need a 12 V supply, 36 V devices need 36 V. On long cable runs use thicker wire, so the voltage at the camera does not drop. Not sure? Send us your camera list and we size it for you.

Can I buy this online?

How do I size a power supply?

Add up the current of everything it feeds at the same voltage, then leave about 20 percent headroom; a supply run near its limit gets hot and fails early. Long cable runs drop voltage, so cameras far from a central supply may need a local adaptor instead. Send us the device list and distances and we pick the supply.
