Questions & answers

Know before you buy

Quick answers about the DS-2CD2687G3-LIZS2UY/SRB 2.8-12mm, and how it compares.

1 Line or 2 Line: which one do I need?

1 Line (Value Series): the body is often plastic or part plastic (it differs by model, so check the specs), with Motion Detection 2.0 or 3.0 for people and vehicle alerts. Good for homes, shops and small offices.

2 Line (Pro Series): metal body (some parts, like the sun shade, are plastic), bigger sensor, longer night range and perimeter alarms such as line crossing and intrusion. Good for factories, warehouses and any site with a wall or fence.

G2 or G3: what changes?

G3 is the newer generation. It cleans night grain and glare before detection, so headlights and reflections cause far fewer false alarms (Hikvision states up to 80% fewer). It also saves search tags with the video for AcuSeek. G2 is still a good camera when budget decides.

What is Smart Hybrid Light?

The camera has two lights. In the dark it uses invisible IR and records in black and white. When it detects a person or vehicle, it turns on white light and records in colour. You can also set it to IR only or white light only.

How does 1 Line ColorVu compare with 2 Line ColorVu?

Both show colour at night. 1 Line is the budget choice: smaller sensor, lower frame rate, and it needs a little more light. 2 Line has a bigger sensor for darker places and adds perimeter alarms. For a lit shop front, 1 Line is enough; for a dark yard, choose 2 Line.

When do the strobe light and alarm sound go off?

Only when the camera detects a person or vehicle in the area you set. You choose the flashing light, a siren or your own recorded voice message, and when it is active (for example only after closing time). From the Hik-Connect app you can also talk to the visitor through the speaker.

What do AcuSense, Motion Detection, AcuSense Perimeter, AcuSearch and AcuSeek mean?
  • AcuSense: the brain that tells people and vehicles apart. It also marks the recordings, so you can play back only those clips.
  • Motion Detection 2.0 / 3.0: motion detection with AcuSense. It alerts only for people and vehicles, not cats, leaves or rain. 3.0 also ignores headlights.
  • AcuSense Perimeter: you draw a line or an area (line crossing, intrusion, entering or leaving an area), and only people and vehicles set off the alarm. Built into 2 Line (Pro Series) cameras.
  • AcuSearch: click a person in old video and see every clip with them (Pro I NVR or higher).
  • AcuSeek: search video by typing words, like "white car at the gate" (G3 cameras with a VPro or DeepinMind NVR).
What does the camera do, and what does the NVR add?

The camera detects; the NVR records and helps you find clips. A Hikvision AI NVR (NXI) can also add AI to older cameras: people and vehicle alerts on all channels, and line crossing or face recognition on 1 or 2 cameras. This camera has AcuSense built in, so it does not use up the NVR's AI.

Which Hikvision NVR should I pair it with?

Any Hikvision NVR records it. Value (NI-Q) for basic recording. Pro K (NXI-K) adds people and vehicle playback, AI for older cameras and face recognition on a few cameras. Pro I (NXI-I) adds AcuSearch. VPro adds AcuSeek. DeepinMind runs AI on many channels. Our engineers size channels and storage with your quote.

Can this camera recognise faces?

This camera captures faces itself: it saves a clear photo of each face with the time, so you can search faces instead of hours of video. To recognise faces (match them with your staff, VIP or blocked list), pair it with a Hikvision AI NVR (NXI-K or higher). For good results, people should face the camera at head height, with light on their faces.

What happens to my recordings if a hard disk fails or the NVR is stolen?

With a microSD card in the camera, the last days of video stay inside the camera, even if the hard disk fails or thieves take the NVR. If the network drops, the camera records to the card and the NVR copies the gap back later. On the NVR side, RAID models (86xx, 96xx) lose nothing when one disk fails; other NVRs lose only the video on the failed disk.
