1 Line (Value Series): the body is often plastic or part plastic (it differs by model, so check the specs), with Motion Detection 2.0 or 3.0 for people and vehicle alerts. Good for homes, shops and small offices.

2 Line (Pro Series): metal body (some parts, like the sun shade, are plastic), bigger sensor, longer night range and perimeter alarms such as line crossing and intrusion. Good for factories, warehouses and any site with a wall or fence.

G3 is the newer generation. It cleans night grain and glare before detection, so headlights and reflections cause far fewer false alarms (Hikvision states up to 80% fewer). It also saves search tags with the video for AcuSeek. G2 is still a good camera when budget decides.

The x1 models (1021, 1041, 1321, 1341) cost less, alert for people only and see 20 m with IR and 15 m with white light. The x3 models (1023, 1043, 1323, 1343) also detect vehicles and see 30 m. For a gate or parking area, choose x3.

The camera has two lights. In the dark it uses invisible IR and records in black and white. When it detects a person or vehicle, it turns on white light and records in colour. You can also set it to IR only or white light only.

• Motion Detection 2.0 / 3.0: alerts only for people and vehicles, not cats, leaves or rain. 3.0 also ignores headlights.
• AcuSense: tells people and vehicles apart, and marks the recordings so you can play back only those clips.
• Perimeter protection: an alarm when someone crosses a line you draw or enters an area. Built into 2 Line cameras.
• AcuSearch: click a person in old video and see every clip with them (Pro I NVR or higher).
• AcuSeek: search video by typing words, like "white car at the gate" (G3 cameras with a VPro or DeepinMind NVR).

The camera detects; the NVR records and helps you find clips. A Hikvision AI NVR (NXI) can also add AI to older cameras: people and vehicle alerts on all channels, and line crossing or face recognition on 1 or 2 cameras. This camera has AcuSense built in, so it does not use up the NVR's AI.

Any Hikvision NVR records it. Value (NI-Q) for basic recording. Pro K (NXI-K) adds people and vehicle playback, AI for older cameras and face recognition on a few cameras. Not by itself. A Hikvision AI NVR (NXI), even a low-cost one like the DS-7604NXI-K1, can capture and recognise faces from it on 1 or 2 cameras. For good results, people should face the camera at head height, with light on their faces.

With a microSD card in the camera, the last days of video stay inside the camera, even if the hard disk fails or thieves take the NVR. If the network drops, the camera records to the card and the NVR copies the gap back later. On the NVR side, RAID models (86xx, 96xx) lose nothing when one disk fails; other NVRs lose only the video on the failed disk.

This model has no card slot. Choose the F version if you want this backup.
