What does a decoder or controller do in a video wall?
A monitor cannot read a camera stream on its own. A decoder (DS-6900 series, DS-C10S) takes the H.265 streams from cameras and NVRs and turns them into HDMI or DVI pictures for the screens, with several cameras per output. A video wall controller (DS-C30S, C60S, C66S) goes further: input cards take HDMI, DVI and decoded cameras, output cards drive the screens, and the controller lets the operator open, move and scale windows across the whole wall from a keyboard or HikCentral. Decoder card or video wall controller: what do I need?
The controller chassis (DS-C10S, C30S, C60S, C66S) is the frame; the input and output cards go in it. Count the screens: each output card drives a fixed number of screens, and each input card takes a fixed number of HDMI or network sources. Cameras come in over the network from the NVR or HikCentral, so most camera walls need output cards only. Tell us the screen count and the sources and we size the chassis and cards.
