Know before you buy
Quick answers about the H8c Pro 3K (5MP), and how it compares.
Can the H8c Pro 3K cover a large outdoor area?
Yes. It pans 350° and tilts 90°, so one camera can watch the gate, driveway, garden and the side of the house. It follows and zooms in on people it detects, and you can save up to 12 preset views in the EZVIZ app that it returns to after tracking. Patrol mode sweeps side to side or cycles through four presets.
What does dual-band Wi-Fi mean for me?
The H8c Pro 3K connects on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. 5 GHz is faster and less crowded, good where many neighbouring networks clash; 2.4 GHz reaches further through walls. Where Wi-Fi is weak at the mounting spot, use the Ethernet port and a network cable instead.
H8c Pro 3K or H8c Pro 4K?
The H8c Pro 4K records more detail (8MP vs 5MP): take it to read number plates or recognise faces far down a long driveway. For most homes and shops the H8c Pro 3K is sharp enough. Both detect people and vehicles and connect on dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) or a cable.
H8c Pro 3K or H8c 2K⁺?
The H8c Pro 3K is sharper (5MP vs 4MP), detects vehicles as well as people and connects on 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. The H8c 2K⁺ detects people only.
H8c Pro 3K or H8c Pro 3K 4G?
Same 5MP pan and tilt camera. The H8c Pro 3K 4G also runs on a 4G SIM, for places with no internet, and is rated IP66. Where you have Wi-Fi or a cable, the H8c Pro 3K does the job.
Which H8c should I choose?
All H8c models pan and tilt to cover the whole area, see in colour at night (IR up to 30 m), talk both ways and warn intruders with a siren and strobe. They differ in megapixels and how they connect:
| Model | Megapixels | Connection | Detects |
|---|---|---|---|
| H8c 1080P | 2MP | Wi-Fi | People |
| H8c 2K | 3MP | Network cable (PoE), no Wi-Fi | People |
| H8c Pro 2K | 3MP | Wi-Fi or cable | People |
| H8c 2K⁺ | 4MP | Wi-Fi or cable | People |
| H8c Pro 3K | 5MP | Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) or cable | People and vehicles |
| H8c Pro 3K 4G | 5MP | 4G SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi or cable | People and vehicles |
| H8c Pro 4K | 8MP | Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) or cable | People and vehicles |
| H8c 4G | 3MP | 4G SIM or cable | People and vehicles |
Good Wi-Fi at the spot: a Wi-Fi model; where 2.4 GHz is crowded, the H8c Pro 3K and Pro 4K also work on 5 GHz. Weak Wi-Fi but a cable run: the H8c 2K on PoE. No internet at all: the H8c 4G or H8c Pro 3K 4G.
IR, colour night vision or ColorFULL: what is the difference?
IR night vision uses invisible infrared light. It works in total darkness and reaches the furthest, but the video is black and white.
Colour night vision switches on white spotlights, usually when it detects someone, so the video is in colour and clothes, cars and faces are easier to tell apart. The sudden light also warns intruders off.
ColorFULL (H8x 2K⁺ and H80x Dual) uses a large sensor and a very bright F1.0 lens to record colour from very little light, such as a street lamp, without switching any lights on. In complete darkness it falls back to IR.
Does it scare off intruders?
Yes. When it detects a person it can sound a siren and flash red and blue warning lights (Active Defense), or play a recorded voice message. Switch them on or off in the EZVIZ app, and talk to visitors live with two-way talk.
What do 2K, 3K and 4K mean in megapixels?
Brands use 2K, 3K and 4K loosely, so compare cameras by megapixels:
| Megapixels | Sold as | Pixels |
|---|---|---|
| 2MP | 1080p, Full HD | 1920 × 1080 |
| 3MP | 2K | 2304 × 1296 |
| 4MP | 2K⁺, QHD | 2560 × 1440 |
| 5MP | 3K | 2880 × 1620 |
| 8MP | 4K, UHD | 3840 × 2160 |
More megapixels keep faces and number plates readable when you zoom into a recording. For a room 2MP to 3MP is enough; for a gate, driveway or shop front, 4MP and above is worth it.
How does it record, and do I need a subscription?
Video is saved on a microSD card in the camera (not included). When the card is full, the oldest video is overwritten automatically. ESCO stocks genuine EZVIZ cards in 64 GB and 128 GB.
No subscription is needed: live view, playback, alerts and AI detection all work in the free EZVIZ app. EZVIZ CloudPlay is an optional paid plan that also keeps alert clips online, so they are safe even if the camera or card is stolen.
What does it need to connect, and does it keep recording if the internet goes down?
It connects to your home Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz on most models), and many models also have an Ethernet port for a network cable where Wi-Fi is weak. Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the mounting spot first; a Wi-Fi extender or a cable fixes a weak spot.
If the internet goes down, the camera keeps recording to its microSD card. You only lose live view and alerts on your phone until the connection is back.
