Know before you buy
Quick answers about the CB8, and how it compares.
How long does the CB8 battery last, and can I add solar?
The 10,400 mAh battery lasts up to 210 days per charge in EZVIZ tests; busy spots with many alerts drain it faster. Recharge it with a cable, or add an EZVIZ solar panel (sold separately) to keep it topped up. Ask us on WhatsApp for the panel that fits.
Does the CB8 follow people?
Yes. It turns 340° and tilts 65°, recognises people and follows them automatically. Two spotlights give colour video at night (IR up to 15 m), and a siren with the lights can scare intruders off.
CB8 or HB8 Lite: which battery pan & tilt camera?
The HB8 Lite is sharper (4MP vs 3MP), records all day with AOV 2.0, also detects vehicles, uses Wi-Fi 6 and costs less. The CB8 has twice the battery (10,400 vs 5,200 mAh), so it goes much longer between charges without a solar panel.
How do the EZVIZ wire-free cameras compare?
| Model | Megapixels | View | Battery and solar | All-day recording |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CB5 4K | 8MP | Fixed, 135° wide | 10,400 mAh, solar built in | Yes |
| CB8 | 3MP | Pan & tilt, follows people | 10,400 mAh, panel optional | No |
| HB8 Lite | 4MP | Pan & tilt, follows people and vehicles | 5,200 mAh, panel optional | Yes |
| HB8c/SP | 4MP | HB8 Lite with a 5 W panel | 5,200 mAh, panel included | Yes |
| HB90 Dual kit | 2 × 4MP | Wide lens plus pan & tilt lens | 10,400 mAh, 8 W panel included | Yes |
No power at the spot? Choose one of these. Power but no Wi-Fi? The H8c 4G runs on a SIM card.
Does a battery camera record all the time?
Normally a battery camera sleeps and records a short clip when its motion sensor is triggered, which saves battery. Cameras with Always-On Video (AOV) keep recording all day at a low frame rate and switch to full speed when something happens, so there are no gaps in the timeline.
AOV uses more power, so pair it with a solar panel. The CB5 4K, HB8 Lite, HB8c/SP and HB90 Dual kit have AOV; the CB8 records motion clips.
What do 2K, 3K and 4K mean in megapixels?
Brands use 2K, 3K and 4K loosely, so compare cameras by megapixels:
| Megapixels | Sold as | Pixels |
|---|---|---|
| 2MP | 1080p, Full HD | 1920 × 1080 |
| 3MP | 2K | 2304 × 1296 |
| 4MP | 2K⁺, QHD | 2560 × 1440 |
| 5MP | 3K | 2880 × 1620 |
| 8MP | 4K, UHD | 3840 × 2160 |
More megapixels keep faces and number plates readable when you zoom into a recording. For a room 2MP to 3MP is enough; for a gate, driveway or shop front, 4MP and above is worth it.
How does it record, and do I need a subscription?
Video is saved on a microSD card in the camera (not included). When the card is full, the oldest video is overwritten automatically. ESCO stocks genuine EZVIZ cards in 64 GB and 128 GB.
No subscription is needed: live view, playback, alerts and AI detection all work in the free EZVIZ app. EZVIZ CloudPlay is an optional paid plan that also keeps alert clips online, so they are safe even if the camera or card is stolen.
